Project Description
Since 2020, SAT has been part of restoration packages issued by the city of Edmonton, performing sensitive scopes to rebuild and expand the life of historical buildings. SAT worked at the Land Titles Victoria Armouries with two general contractors for different stages and reconstruction packages, where both the project architects and the City of Edmonton chose SAT as preferred trade. The Victoria Armouries required unique attention to the restoration of wood and brick walls, and SAT was hired to perform the work including removal of lead materials and reinforcement/structural work of different areas under the two packages. Working in occupied spaces in a vulnerable area with high pedestrian density was challenging, yet SAT was able to perform as per clients requirement and expectations and continues to complete work with zero incidents.
Technology, Innovation, and Sustainability
This project used an integrated project approach, where a collaborative approach to the design and construction of complex construction projects was used, decreasing costs and schedules.
Project Challenges Overcome
- Working in an occupied space.
- Unforeseen abatement was required, so SAT quickly and safely adapted to meet aggressive schedules and minimize downtime. At times this required weekend and overnight shifts.
- Detailing and protecting brick, wood, and stone features without compromising the integrity of the materials while performing abatement.
- Working in a space surrounded by a vulnerable sector.
