Principal

Sergio Alejandro Torres Barbosa – B.Comm- MIS, APM, P.GSC

Sergio founded SAT in 2006, and has been the Principal ever since.

Bullet Points: Born in Mexico, immigrated to Canada, Sergio holds multiple degrees and certificates from both the University of Alberta and Stanford University. He is also a recognized Gold Seal Certificate Project Manager from the Canadian Construction Association. In 2012, Sergio was named honorary ambassador at the sister cities convention in Jinan in Shandong China.

Life and Work: During his free time, Sergio enjoys nothing more than spending time with his family and friends. When at work, Sergio puts his heart and soul into every interaction with his clients and team saying that “Our clients deserve what my children deserve and I only give my children the very best of me”.

Operations Manager

Angel Barbosa

Angel was born in Mexico, and is SAT’s Operations Consultant.

Bullet points: Angel began his career as a structural welder. He joined SAT in 2008 and holds a certificate in Project Management and Construction Technologies from NAIT. Angel is also bilingual and can fluently speak both English and Spanish. Aside from his experience in Canada, Angel has had the opportunity to work on several projects in Asia and South America.

When he’s not at work: “It is very hard to not take work home with you when you’re passionate about what you do, but my team is awesome so when I’m at work, it doesn’t always feel like work.” When not at the office, you can find Angel enjoying quality time with his friends and family, and participating in outdoor activities like fishing, camping, riding motorcycles, and playing soccer.

Project Manager

Thomas Wilson Anderson

Born in Ottawa, raised in Edmonton, Thomas is SAT’s Project Manager for millwork, reconstruction, and renovations.

Bullet points: Thomas joined the SAT team in October of 2016, bringing over 10 years of experience to the team. He is also a journeyman plumber with his Red Seal. Thomas specializes in multifamily high-rises, CRU, tenant improvement and special projects for SAT, and has had the opportunity to work on NET ZERO projects both locally and overseas.

When he’s not at work: With a new baby on board, Thomas enjoys spending time with his family, and it will take only a whisper to get him to go fishing. He enjoys playing and watching basketball and hockey. “In the demanding construction industry with its never-ending workload I am passionate about delivering great projects to our clients. There is something about looking at a piece of land one day and seeing a finished project the next, and when you are working alongside an awesome team and with great clients it’s always a great feeling doing what we do.”

SAFETY OFFICER

Jeniffer Kotylak – NCSO, OHS Certified, Trainer & Auditor

Jeniffer is without a question a go getter, always training and looking to implement new strategies to make the work safer, more efficient and fun. Jeniffer is SAT’s Head of Safety in the Office and Operations.

Bullet points:– Joined SAT in 2019. Jeniffer has been in safety for over a decade. Before her journey into safety she held various roles and education, including other designations such as a business accounting diploma. She put her time in the field as well, roles such as a heavy equipment operator contributing to multiple high end projects including the Muskrat falls project. Jeniffer is an NCSO, GSC, Auditor and OHS certified. She also is a facilitator for highly reputable agencies such as St.Johns Ambulance and 3M fall pro Group. Well disciplined and always learning and growing in her role. Jen has pride and passion for safety and commitment to every individual’s overall health and safety, she considers herself more of a safety support than a safety officer. Her perception of her role has resulted in great buy-in to the safety program of those she works with or around. Resulting in a strong safety culture at SAT.

When not at work: When off work Jen loves spending time with her family, friends and fur babies, hanging out outdoors, fishing, golfing, floating, camping, fires, patios,etc. She loves good food , good weather and good vibes. When not working, you can find her having fun in the sun!

Construction Manager

Aurel Prentice – Construction Manager

Aurel Prentice is a highly trained and experienced professional with over 25 years in the construction industry. Throughout his career, he has been responsible for building thousands of units in both residential and commercial spaces. Currently, he serves as the construction manager at SAT Consulting & Construction and holds a Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter certification, along with completing various safety and management training programs.

Beyond his professional expertise, Aurel enjoys exploring new flavors and trying out different restaurants, though he admits he’s not much of a cook. However, he jokes that he’s great at washing dishes. While he’s not in the kitchen, he has a deep appreciation for good food and is always excited to discover new culinary spots.

In his downtime, Aurel prefers to relax and enjoy quiet moments with his family. He loves watching movies at home, cheering for his favorite hockey team, the Oilers, and spending time with their dog.

Junior Project Manager

Sebastian Olano – MEng, PMP

Sebastian comes to SAT with international experience having work from one of the largest infrastructure companies in south America. With a bachelor of engineering and masters recently completed at the University of Alberta he will is a key asset to the new developments and projects at SAT. Sebastian is great at identifying and dealing with development drawings, process and procurement which adds value to the company’s profitability. 

Sebastian currently acts a s Junior Project Manager for our ground up projects. 

 

PROJECT CONTROLLER & ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE

Alejandra Mesa

Alejandra is our Project Assistant and Coordinator, she is a natural at keeping everyone in check and making sure our projects and operations run smoothly.

Bullet Points: Even though Alejandra was born in Medellin, Colombia, she was raised and has lived most of her life in Edmonton, which she calls home now. Like most people in our office she is bilingual and you can usually find her greeting you in both English and Spanish. She can be described as a go getter, and is always going the extra mile.

Life and Work:  During her free time Alejandra enjoys nature walks. “There is something about nature that simply can’t be beat” she says. When at work, Alejandra thinks of SAT as her second home. “I enjoy what I do at work and I believe this attitude grants me a balance between my social life and daily work ethic.”

PROCUREMENT SPECIALIST

Wenhue (Wendy) Yao – B. Comm, CT

Wendy was born in China and is the Procurement Specialist at SAT. She will be one of the main points of contact for most projects to ensure all stakeholders are informed, schedule is on track, and processes are followed according to plan. Wendy is tenacious, and has a long track record of successful project management.

Bullet Points: A recent business school graduate from the University of Alberta, Wendy is enthusiastic and approachable. Her passion is to contribute, support, and make a difference in the business world. Wendy says she thinks in Chinese most of the time, even when speaking English.

Life and Work: Her day-to-day duties include working closely with the Principal and SAT’s Project Managers on all requirements of a project throughout its lifecycle. Outside of work, she loves cooking – mainly testing out new recipes.

Abatement QA/QC

Jorge Ramirez – I. Eng

Jorge is SAT’s on-site representation of the QA team, where he is always available to investigate issues as they arise and ensure employee safety and environmental standards. He helps implement programs with crews in the field to allow optimum utilization of materials and resources. Jorge also excels at increasing efficiency, reducing operating costs at work sites, and improving overall quality.

Life & Work: Playing tennis, watching soccer, BBQing at home, having a good time with his wife and friends.

Education: Graduated as Industrial Engineer/Specialist Instrumentation and process control from CETI University, Mexico

Dulce Mercado – B.Comm

Dulce loves to be around people who inspire her to grow. She has worked in the planning and logistics area for more than 4 years, learning every day that teamwork is an important skill.

Education: Marketing degree from the University of Guadalajara, Diploma in comprehensive leadership training.

Laura Botello – B Comm

Laura was born in Mexico

Bullet points: She holds a Bachelor Degree in International Relations from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara.  She is interested in global affairs and international politics.

Laura joined SAT in 2015; since then Laura has been In charge of keeping the office together, from welcoming at the front door, to organizing meetings, company calendars, events, to simple tasks such as handling correspondence. 

The balance between job and family:  At the office there is always work to do and its pleasing being able to support everyone on doing a great work. When at home, I try to give my daughters all my time, they are my priority

Hobbies: I love travelling with my family, when alone I love cooking, is one of my favorites activities

Architect

Juan Carlos Barbosa – Architect

Born and raised in Mexico, Carlos is a project leader with SAT Consulting & Construction. With a degree in Architecture and almost 10 years in the industry his experience is high value added to our clients and SAT.

Bullet points: Carlos started with SAT in 2023. Prior to that he was working in the construction designing, managing and developing new strategies for environmental as well as project management. He views construction as something that is always changing and loves to see projects go from start to finish.

When he’s not at work: He enjoys gong for long drives into the mountains, spending time with friends and family, going for hikes and playing soccer.

Corporate Controller

Leonardo D’Este – B.Comm

Leonardo is a Venezuelan and Italian transplant  that has been based out of Edmonton for nearly two decades.

Bullet points: He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Management degree from MacEwan University. He comes to our company with eleven years of previous experience in the finance and investment sector working mainly with major banks and institutions, and has a strong drive for project management. Leonardo’s dynamic and restless personality allows him to try to wear a few hats at the same time. His primary role within our firms is of corporate controller.

Detailed oriented, research driven, and passionate about sustainable energy, preservation, architecture, and doing good for all.

The balance between job and family:  Coming from the corporate world; and being driven by my high standards of achievement I always struggled to keep a separation between job and family. It has taken much work to define that boundary and what it means to me. One of the great things about our team is that while we are working; the environment doesn’t feel like a pressure cooker and that really matters in putting a smile when I come to work and when I leave.

Safety Officer - Calgary

SEAN SILVERSTEIN – Safety Officer Calgary

Sean is SAT’s Site Safety Supervisor, Calgary Division, NHSA.

Bullet points: Born in New Brunswick. Raised in Calgary Alberta. He has focused most recently in his life on health and safety, bringing years of experience from a variety of labour/ operator industries. Such as a Labour ranch hand- Farming, Labour deck hand- Fishing, Landscaping, Concrete cutting, Concrete forming- Construction. His experience combined with his Safety training at the ACSA he aims to brings together a real connection with work crews and their focus and understanding of Safety.

When not at work: Sean has various hobbies, enjoying traveling the world experiencing different cultures. When at home he can be found anywhere from fishing on the river, camping in the woods, to shopping with his wife, or painting pottery.

His love and passion for family, enjoying life, and taking any chance at a new experience is his biggest hobby.
